“In September of 2018 FLAC Newcastle in conjunction with Newcastle Climate Justice Uprising successfully shut down the worlds largest coal port for over half a day as part of their ‘End Coal’ campaign. This campaign also saw the disruption of coal headed to the coal port on 4 other days through blockades of the train lines heading in to the port. The coal industry has been a major part of Newcastle for over 200 years, but with the climate emergency worsening more and more Newcastle locals are growing concerned and are doing everything they can to ensure that Newcastle starts to move away from coal and it’s disastrous effects on human health, the environment and the climate. In 2019 FLAC Newcastle are working with other environmental and climate action groups to put on an event in the first half of the year as part of a global climate emergency campaign. Be sure to sign up to stay up to date as details will be released in the new year”
